Between the 3 major anniversaries of Star Trek TNG (25 years), DS9 (20 years) and B5 (20 years) in between September 2012 and February 2013, as well as 2 further, major science fiction anniversaries in 2015 and 2016 this year is a pretty quiet SF-year.
At least a small Jubilee is there to commit also in 2014:
15 years of "Crusade". The series has been aired for the first time in the United States on the day just now 1 1/2 decades ago on June 9, 1999.
Crusade is a spin-off of "Babylon 5" - which unfortunately had a short life: After only 1 season, the series has been discontinued.
In the German-speaking countries it took until 2012 and 2013 when the show was broadcasted for the first time on the Pay-TV SyFy-Channel. In free-TV so far it unfortunately has not yet been sent in Germany or Austria.
Therefore I still didn't see the series, which I find very sad.
Hopefully the show will make it's way also into our free-TV soon.
Just as Babylon 5 has not been broadcasted for 3 years in the German-speaking countries.
2013 the series father, J. Michael Straczynski, said that the series at that time wasn't broadcasted in even one single country (!) of the world.
A shame for such a great, exciting and ingenious series that perfectly fits into the modern era with its dark aspects.
Mini ray of hope:
The small B5 revival of 2007 was aired on May 12, 2014 in the night-program (exactly 4:00) of German TV-station "Kabel 1".
But that's not enough to me:
Dear TV-stations in Germany and Austria (and also in other countries)!
Put Babylon 5 and Crusade into your programs.
These are great shows that have not been for a long time or never ever have been aired by you.
We smart science fiction fans will thank you!
P.S.: Which 2 anniversaries do I mean to celebrate next and after next year?
- 2015 we are going to celebrate 20 years of Star Trek: Voyager
- And 2016 there is the ultimate MEGA-anniversary: 50 years of Star Trek "The original series" (TOS) & at the same time also half a century of the whole Star Trek universe
Update 22nd of August 2014:
One thing I absolutely have to mention and furthermore I really like to as it's good news: B5 has made it's comeback in German-language TV and is broadcasted since 25th of July 2014 on TV-station "Tele 5".
